I'm so lucky to have photographed Vijay and Kari's wedding at the Four Seasons.  It was beautiful from start to finish.  Such a happy couple!  Congratulations.

Take a Breath...

It's rare that I post anything personal here.  Makes sense.   After all this is a photography blog and I'm a photographer by trade.  So I happily keep it professional with hints of personal news.  It's a mix of weddings, families, babies and an occasional foster dog story.  Until now......

This week is a big week and I have a lot on my mind so I'm going to take this one blog post and share the importance of what is happening.  First I have a story to tell (to set the mood)...

I have this amazing younger sister who I have just happened to know for almost 40 years.  She is my one and only sibling,.. 3 1/2 years younger.  I would love to say that we have always been the very best of friends but really, who can say that about their siblings?  We had our moments of wanting to kill each other (I mean for real).  We also had our moments of laughing together and loving each other like crazy and then we would be back to the killing thing (although this really only lasted through High School).  But, ultimately she has always been my best friend who would do anything and everything to support me, be there for all of those big moments and listen to me when I really needed to be listened to.  It all started with this.

Now let's fast forward to adult hood.  The older we got, the closer we got,.. definitely.  I love that about life.  In general, life's experiences (good and bad) bring people closer together.  Natalie and I got to see each other fall in love.  She was in the room when I had both of my kids (along with my mom, brother-in-law, nephew and grandfather,.. oh and my husband, Shane.    But that is another story entirely).  Bottom line, she has been there for all of those life-changing moments.  Good and Bad.  She has been such an important part of me.

Along the way, my beautiful sister was making her own journey in life.  She happened to be a terrific singer with a voice that could sing most people under the table.  She was born that way.  Big personality, big voice.  Both of those things ended up getting her pretty far in life.  She joined a band called the Dixie Chicks and the rest is history (as they say).  We all learned enormous life lessons along the way and were exposed to things I never thought possible.  But, the girl it all effected the most was the  girl who never wavered.  Not once.  It was certainly painful to watch and hear the hate aimed at my sister, but also so inspiring to see her fight for what she believed in.  I always knew who she was and what she stood for, but was still blown away by her resolve to stand up for herself.  It's something I will never forget.  One of those life-changing moments.

Along the way, Natalie fought to maintain the person she had been her entire life.  Caring, thoughtful, generous, free-spirited, full of personality, loyal, trusting.  I could go on.  She makes me want to be a better person, mother and friend.

Jump to this week.  After a journey she never thought she would take, Natalie is back doing what she does best in the way that fits who she is inside and out.   She's releasing her first solo album.  It's a really big deal for a girl who has been through so much and worked so hard to maintain a sense of self.  Don't get me wrong.  It has not been an easy journey.  But, wow!  Here she is, taking this big step on her own and I couldn't be more proud (in the words of my daughter Amelia, "Duh").

So, why am I writing this 'long-winded' blog post you ask?  Well, I'm an emotional wreck (obviously)!  I'm so happy and oh so anxious at the same time (it's genetic).  I think so much of the past 10 years has been building up to this wonderful moment.  I'm trying to take it in and enjoy it and I'm feeling too happy and sentimental not to share.

This insanely talented and incredible person is making beautiful music again.  If you want to be a part of her journey then you should buy it up and listen to it over and over (like I will) and let her inspire you like she has always inspired me.  Peace out people.  (now back to your regularly scheduled program).
